It is crunch time this weekend as several of Upminster's senior sides face vital clashes on Saturday afternoon.
Local friends and rivals Gidea Park come to Upminster park for a crucial 1st XI Premier Division fixture (12 noon). Park sit bottom of the table at the moment, while Upminster lie in 8th position. Upminster have shown some improved form in recent weeks, and are unbeaten in four games. Park have also put in some good performances of late in the all day games, but this match sees a switch back to the 50 overs a side format.
The 2nd XI will be looking to bounce back from last week's heavy defeat at Fives and Heronians, when they travel to South Woodford for their Premier Division clash (1.00pm). A number of more familiar faces return to the side for this game, so they will be hopeful of a more positive outcome.
On the next pitch, the 3rd XI will hope to secure a valuable win in their fight against the drop when they take on bottom of the table South Woodford (1.00pm). Chris Cully's side picked up a fine win last week against Harold Wood, but will be missing their inspirational captain this time out, due to other commitments. South are without a win all season, so will be looking to break their duck for 2010.
Will Sissen's 4th XI will be battling for points for entirely different reasons as they try to continue their push for promotion as they host Brentwood (1.00pm). Sissen's men scrambled home against Wickford 3s last week, thanks in part to some runs from returning star Dave Foss. Brentwood lie third in the table, 20 points behind Upminster, so this game will go a long way towards determining the promotion places.
A heavy defeat to South Woodford 4s last Saturday was a major setback for the 5th XI in their bid to avoid relegation. It followed a good run of form in the weeks before that, and Karim Govani's team will be hoping to return to that good form when they travel down the A127 to face Southend 3s (1.00pm). A win last week for the 6th team has created some breathing space for them with 4 weeks to go, but they will be hoping for another good performance as they welcome West Essex to Cooper School (1.00pm).
On Sunday there is much to look forward to (see information below for full details), with the 1st XI and 2nd XI in action and the U13s also facing an important game. |
