DOUBLE DEFEATS FOR UPMINSTER GIRLS
Upminster U16 Girls have played two indoor games over the past week, the first of which was against Lady Taveners Champions Bentley. Upminster batted first and set off quickly. Ellie Davis made a quickfire 16 at the top of the order, but a flurry of wickets stalled Upminster's progress. Hayley Critchell fought well with an excellent 18 in the final overs to bring Upminster to a below par 54 from their 10 overs. This was, however, a solid effort against a strong Bentley bowling line up. Bentley showed their all-round skills and knocked off the 55 runs required in 7 overs.
Upminster’s next game was against Woodham Mortimer and their talented Essex players. Easily the best team in the league, they showed their qualities by posting 107 in their 10 overs, with two of their players retiring on 25. Ellie Davis picked up a wicket thanks to a good catch behind by Amy Woods. In reply, Ellie went early on but Bayley Shuttlwood and Eleni Tsappis showed great potential in keeping out the Woodham Mortimer bowlers. Young Lucy Critchell also batted well making 10. Bayley Shuttlewood finished carrying her bat for 19 not out which is a very good effort. Upminster finished on 51 from their 10 overs. Two of the toughest teams out of the way, Upminster play rivals Harold Wood next week.
UPMINSTER U16 GIRLS Vs RAYLEIGH AT CHELMSFORD
Upminster played their first indoor game of the winter against Rayleigh on Tuesday night. Upminster won the toss and bowled first in many of the girls first indoor game. All four bowlers bowled well and kept Rayleigh to 74 of their 10 overs, with K Castle scoring 30 not out for Rayleigh. Upminster took 5 wickets with Ellie Davis and Cailtin Hewson the pick of the bowlers, with Sam Wallis also getting a direct hit run out during the innings.
Ellie and Bayley Shuttlewood opened the batting and set the platform for the chase by putting on 45 for the first wicket in 6 overs. Eventually Davis was out caught behind for 13. Eleni Tsappis also went for 2, to a brilliant one handed catch at square leg by the Rayleigh fielder. Bayley Shuttlewood was still scoring consistently and Upminster needed 15 off the last over. An early boundary and some wides meant Upminster needed 2 runs off the last ball. Sadly Cailtin was run out at the keepers end which meant Rayleigh took the close game by 1 run.
Overall, it was an excellent performance all round by Upminster's U16 Girls.
U11s MINIPLAY TOURNAMENT
An Upminster side took part in the U11's Miniplay Tournament at the Essex County Ground on Wednesday 10th August. 32 6-a-side teams took part in total, playing three fixtures each. All of these matches were played on the outfield of the County Ground, which was a fantastic opportunity for our young players, who played excellently on the night.
Congratulations to all of those involved in a successful and enjoyable night.
UNDER 13s JUST MISS OUT IN REGIONAL FINALS
Craig Chuter's Under 13s narrowly missed out on a place in the Regional Final of the National Cup when they fell to a four wicket defeat at the hands of Hertfordshire winners Knebworth Park.
Upminster were bowled out for just 81 in their innings, but a superb bowling and fielding display got them back in the game only for Knebworth to scrape home with just two balls remaining.
The boys picked themselves up to beat Mildenhall in the 3rd/4th play-off with another fine performance, while Knebworth lost out to High Wycombe in the Final, and it is they who will go on to represent the East Region in the National Finals.
Many congratulations to Craig's side who have gone further in this competition than any Upminster side have ever done, and whose behaviour on and off the field has been a credit to the Club at all times.
