Many thanks to all those who played in and helped at the MCC game on Thursday.

A very strong MCC side won a very entertaining game.

Many thanks to the MCC for sending such a strong side for this game, and especially to their captain Barry Clayden.  We were
very grateful to host such a prestigious occasion to mark our Club's 150th Anniversary, after the game last season was washed out.

WEEKEND REVIEW PDF Print E-mail

t was an excellent weekend for Upminster, with some positive results in crucial games.

The 1st XI won their local derby with Gidea Park, and in the process moved up to 5th place in the table.  Some excellent bowling from Naeem Iqbal helped restrict Park to 194-9 from their 50 overs.  In reply 48 from Mark Squibb put Upminster in a good position, but when Shaffiq Rahman was run out with the score at 140-7 in the 43rd over it looked like Park would claim a victory.  However, an excellent innings of 31 not out from ex Park man Andrew
D'Cruz, along with fine support from Nick O'Dell and Ollie Peck, meant Upminster won by 2 wickets with 4 balls remaining.

The 2nd XI climbed out of the drop-zone for the first time since June, after a crushing win over Ilford at Upminster Park.  Elliot Bussey made a superb 109, and with support coming from Mike Harrison, Harry Jenkins and Rob Mack, Upminster were able to declare 3 overs early on 301-7.  In reply skipper Nick Ison ripped through the Ilford batting line up to pick up 5-42, and with James Aggio-Brewe also picking up two wickets Ilford were shot out for just 170.

Chris Cully's 3rd XI slipped to a 10 wicket defeat in an amazing game against Gidea Park at Coopers.  Runs were shared around as Upminster made what looked like an impressive 254-6 in their 52 overs.  However, the total was made to look anything but impressive as the Park openers set about their task, and never relented.  They raced to a 10 wicket victory from just 44 overs.

Upminster had the better of the draw in their 4th XI clash with Gidea Park at Gallows Corner.  Jamie O'Dell top scored for the visitors and got good support from Paul Bussey, Jordan Tigg and Will Sissen, before Sissen lost to many balls and declared an over early at 278-8.  Park then lost early wickets in their innings, mainly thanks to Tom Simpson, and they were reduced to 60-6.  However, a dogged 7th wicket partnership put paid to Upminster's victory hopes, and although they eventually picked up another wicket, the game ended in a draw with Park on 185-7.

The 5th XI all but secured their Premier Division status for 2010 with a hard earned victory over Fives and Heronians 4th XI.  Skipper Karim Govani shone with the ball as Fives were bowled out for 147.  Upminster lost early wickets in reply, but good efforts from Alex Mitchell, Steve Limn, Graham Abrey and Scott Dowler saw Upminster home by 3 wickets.

Paul Scott's 6th XI fell to a heavy defeat at West Essex 4th XI.  Brad Thomas was the only man to make an impression with the bat (29 not out) as Upminster were all out for 123.  In reply despite a good effort with the ball and in the field, West marched to an 8 wicket victory.

On Sunday, the 2nd XI fell to defeat in their Sunday League clash with Asians.  Matt Tigg shone with the ball to help restrict Asians to 178 all out.  But in reply the Upminster top order was not up to the job as they were reduced to 55-6.  Nick Ison made a fine 44 not out and with support from Scott Dowler and Adam Quested he was able to lift the visitors to 149 all out, but they still slipped to a 29 run defeat.

The Sunday 3rd XI knocked up a huge score at home against Basildon and Pitsea, with Ant Limn top scoring with 78.  In reply Basildon were never in the chase as Upminster cruised to victory.
